Three Ships Papaya Refresh Cleanser Review (After 1 Week Use)

Another new product from Three Ships Beauty has arrived and I'm so excited for this one! It's a cleanser made with Papaya Extract and Aspen Bark (Salicylic Acid).

It's noted to target oily skin types that suffer from breakouts, like my own. After reading up on all the great benefits and claims that this product has, I knew that my skin needed to give this product a try!

Product Info

Three Ships Beauty recommends this cleanser for combination and oily skin types. It also helps to fight blemishes!

This product is made with many interesting ingredients - and some I had never heard of before! Here is a breakdown of them below, according to info from Three Ships' ingredient glossary:

Populus Tremuloides bark extract; from the bark of the Aspen tree, is an excellent source of natural salicylic acid, helping to combat breakouts. Used to keep skincare products fresh, it acts as an 100% natural preservative while also offering a smooth feel to the skin.

A blend of 10 difference amino acids are also in this cleanser. They are naturally present in the skin, but when you use this product daily, they help to improve retention in the skin. Additionally, amino acids are often anti-aging skincare products because of their ability to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles by stimulating collagen production.

Another key ingredient that is present is Papaya. Papaya is rich in vitamins C and A and minerals like phosphorus, iron and magnesium. In skincare, papaya helps to reduce pigmentation and enhances turnover for improved skin tone and texture, while preventing clogged pores.

As always, Three Ships products are all natural, vegan, certified cruelty-free, gluten-free, pregnancy safe and free of parabens, mineral oil, silicones, artificial colours/flavours, etc.

You can check out the Refresh Cleaner's full ingredients list here. Three Ships does not recommend you to use this product if you are allergic to anything it's made with. It's best to do a test patch on your skin before applying it to your face (like on your arm/wrist).

My First Impressions

I love Three Ships packaging (always!), and the pump form of this product in particular creates a really nice experience. I love that it's a foam cleanser - that somehow makes it more fun (haha!).

I applied 3 pumps to my face (when wet) and massaged it in circular motions. The first thing I noticed right away was that the foam dissolves very quickly. I believe this would be due to the fact that it's all-natural and there is nothing synthetic to keep the bubbles intact for very long. I do, however, feel a need to rush to get the product worked into my skin because of this and I sometimes want to take 4-5 pumps instead of the recommended 2-3.

Overall Results

Overall, I love this new product!

The day I started using it, I had a huge bump built up under the skin on my right cheek (it was one of those welt-like pimples) and my skin had been feeling very oily, especially in the cheek area.

After only 3-4 days of use and concentrating the product on my cheeks, my skin started to feel a lot better in those areas. The pimples and bumps under my skin started disappearing and my skin felt extremely smooth and refreshed after every cleanse.

Even as I'm writing this (day 8), my skin is feeling great and I love what this cleanser has done for my skin. I feel like it does have more of a "drying" effect on my oily skin, so I can see why this product would be best for combo-oily skin types (like my own).

Three Ships says (and I agree), that this product can be used in partnership with their other cleanser, Purify. I LOVE Purify and although it is recommended for more "normal/dry" skin, it still has a really nice effect on my skin. You can read my review for Purify here

I plan to use Refresh as a daily cleanser for now to keep track of how it works on my skin. It's January now, but will probably transition Refresh eventually as my summer cleanser and Purify will be my main winter cleanser. I will probably still use Refresh 1-2 times a week when my skin needs an extra cleanse in colder months!

Three Ships' website says that this cleanser should last you 3-4 months. I will let you guys know how it goes as I continue to use it daily, so be sure to follow me on IG for further updates.
