How to: Soft Lips in Winter

Winter weather is dry and cold - and leaves your lips chapped and cracked. I hate the feeling of having chapped lips and try to keep up a routine that exfoliates and moisturizes them. Here are some of my go-to tips for keeping your lips soft this winter!

1: LUSH Bubblegum Lip Scrub

I absolutely love this lip scrub for exfoliating and getting rid of impurities when it comes to dry lips! This bubblegum flavoured scrub from LUSH is so super sweet and yummy - and it's pink! It's made of all natural ingredients plus animal cruelty free, so it's good enough to eat!

You can also make your own lip scrub at home using only 2-3 ingredients! I made this video a little while ago when I tried out a few recipes. Watch for more info.

2: Burt's Bees Lip Balm

My favourite replenishing lip product of all time is this pomegranate oil lip balm by Burt's Bees. I love the fruitiness of this lip chap, but also the great nourishing benefits it offers. I apply this 2-3 times a day to get my lips super soft and smooth. I like to apply it before I use a matte lipstick as well!

N A D E G E

Yesterday a friend (Blair of Couture in Chains) and I went up to Nadège, a french café located on Queen St West in Toronto. It is such a cute place to experience! I tried my first macaron ever - and it was delicious! So super sweet and yummy. I got an assortment of macarons ranging from flavours like Cotton Candy, Rose, Blackberry Chocolate, Cappuccino to Vanilla!

It may not be Paris, but it was sure fun!

Monarch Wings + Dreaming of Warmer Weather

I painted these monarch butterfly wing nails back in the summer and have had the photos in my blog archives for some time now, waiting for the perfect time to share them. I'd say that right now is a great time because I have been dreaming of warmer weather and what doesn't remind you more of spring/summer than an ombré monarch wing!

Special Occasion Dresses

Looking for some beautiful evening wear, but don’t want to over spend?

Rosa Novias is a perfect online location for all things dresses. From wedding gowns, to cocktail dresses - they have it all!

I’ve selected some of my favourite pieces from the site that I will be forever dreaming about.

This wedding gown is perfectly pretty - with sheer white fabric covering the top and tiny lace detailing throughout the bust, shoulders, waist, and all the way down the skirt of the dress. This is a such a romantically elegant piece to wear for your big day.

This big and beautiful white dress has a very full skirt, complete with white flower details along the top of the strapless gown. The floral embellishments begin again at the waste line again and cascade down the skirt, subtly stopping, and the rest of the skirt continues.

This gorgeus gown reminds me of something seen at a celebrity award show. There is so much femininity to this one and I am in love with the strapless top, and overall shape to the dress. It also has a bit of a train at the back, and that increases the elegance, for sure.

This pink bedazzled mermaid-style dress is perfect for any senior prom or formal "party" event. It has lots of sparkle and shine - and comes in my favourite colour, pink.

This pastel mint and holographic top dress is the perfect evening wear or cocktail dress. I think it has a futuristic vibe to it and is sure to make a statement.

This isn't your average "pink princess" gown! It has a unique mermaid-styled tulle bottom to it. The top is also encrusted with rhinestones and giant gems to give it that glitz and glam feel.

This is a stunning, but more simple dress to go with. It comes in this pretty teal blue/green shade that has a one sided shoulder strap, covered in crystals. So much pretty!

Essie Polish Must-Haves

I am a huge nail polish collector - of any brand and colour - but Essie has some beautiful shades I have to share with you.

Essie is a nail polish brand that was started by Essie Weingarten. To read more about the history, click here.

To see some exciting things in Essie history, (like Princess Catherine Middleton choosing to wear an Essie polish on the day of her marriage, and many more), click here.

Essie has many colours, and is a great brand in general. But today, I wanted to share some colours that are must-haves for your own nail polish collection (and a few of my favourites).

This polish is a great glittery accent to add to nail art, or on top of your favourite Essie shade. It is a clear polish with tiny irridecent gold sparkles that add that little glowing touch as decoration to your nails.

This baby perry winkle blue colour is so cute and lovely to wear. This shade in particular became the number one selling trend nail colour of all time, in 2013.

This pastel lemon-lime shade is so lovely and fun. It is definitely a unique colour to add to your collection.

This bright turquoise/teal colour is bright and reminds me of the ocean on an exotic island, surrounded by golden sand and palm trees!

This pearly baby pink colour is the perfect consistency for an opaque and shimmery manicure. Of course I had to feature a pink polish in this post!

This is a great colour for fall - deep burgundy / maroon. Goes perfectly with a matte dark red lip.

All of these polishes can be found for sale in store at Walmart or Shoppers Drug Mart.

Keep it Comfy

It's great to be back in the city! It was nice to be home in my hometown for the holidays, but now it's time to get back to reality. Classes start on Monday for my second term at Toronto Film School, but I have been attending my internship since I've been back. See my snapchat (@mikayla_k17) for all behind the scenes with that!

I can't wait to prep for my first week back to school over the weekend. I love being able to hang out my apartment catching up on blogging, writing, editing photos and videos, and wearing cute (and comfy) outfits like this one! Who doesn't love to chill in super soft and comfortable clothing? I also love to sit back with a mug of my favourite fruity herbal tea in this adorable Marie mug from The Disney Store.

Stay warm!!

WHAT I WORE:
