A Week With Grandma

Happy International Women's Day! Today I'm going to share some stories about one of my favourite women in my life - my grandma! Last week I was able to travel to Florida to go visit her and spend some time together. She never fails to make me laugh and keep the days very interesting.

Last week, Grandma and I made so many memories in Florida. Beyond the Instagram worthy locations and colourful photos, sitting poolside most of the days, soaking up the sunshine and staying at a gorgeous resort - I got to spend time with my grandmother, who I don't get to see very often since I moved to Toronto a couple years ago. My relationship with my grandma is very important to me and she is one of the strongest women I know. She is also not a regular grandma - she is a cool grandma.

Some of the things that instantly make her cool:

1. Her email and Instagram username include her nickname, "GlamGram".

2. She throws up peace signs all the time around me, and also greeted me at the airport this way.

3. She is so blunt and tells it like it is - but in the funniest way possible.

4. She is always shopping and has a love for it - just as much as I do!

5. She is such a feminist. And I love it.

6. We are so similar that she is basically like my second mother / one of my best friends.

Here are some of the memorable times with Grandma last week:

During the time I was in Florida, we spent a lot of time going to stores and malls to do a little shopping. Like the avid blogger I am, I wanted to take photos of just about everything we got to do. While at the mall one day, I had asked grandma to take a photo of me in front of this one store. I stood at the entry way of the store, and the mall was pretty quiet. Grandma stood back in the hallway and started shooting away. All of a sudden, this guy passed by, but stopped beside my grandmother and watched her take a few shots. He looked at me and then back at my grandma and said, "did you used to look like that when you were her age?" my grandma replies, "are you kidding, I still look like that!" he was like, "oh, I'm sorry - of course." Grandma then adds, "actually, I used to look better."

I laughed so hard.

While in Florida, we were staying at a resort there and had some trouble with a few things; the cleaning service didn't seem to clean the floors very well, the key cards kept deactivating, etc. We felt like we couldn't rely on them for much to go right, so when my grandma inquired about something one day at the resort office - the concierge told her that they can't guarantee what she was asking for. She called him out on it saying, "what do you mean you can't guarantee it?" He was so thrown off and he started saying that it should happen, but no guarantee. Grandma walked away rolling her eyes and I was about to start laughing again. The rest of the week all we did was make jokes about his response and reference to how things "should" be, but there was "no guarantee".

One of my favourite days last week was when I made a list of all these pink walls and places to take Instagram photos in Florida. Grandma drove me around to each and every one of them! She didn't understand why I needed to take photos at these places, but she still put up with the madness. I tired her out for sure that day! Take a look at my "TRAVEL" and "BLOG" insta story highlights to see what I'm talking about.

Another favourite memory from last week was sitting out by the pool and listening to grandma's stories, taking these photos and talking about family. It is always so good to sit own and catch up.

Grandma is so cute. I can only hope to be as fab as her one day!
