How I Got My Job in Marketing

As many of you who follow me on Instagram already know, I'm the marketing manager for a Canadian beauty brand at their head office in Toronto.

I have to say, I am very lucky to have the job that I do. I genuinely love the brand (it's very pink), I love the team of people I get to work with and I love the variety of work I get to do. I am in a position where I can create my own schedules, turn my ideas into real things and have the pleasure of meeting and mentoring incredible communication students as interns.

It has been quite a journey to get to where I am now, but I have to say that connections from previous work and my attitude and my willingness to learn have ultimately lead me to this position.

The journey into my marketing career started after graduating from my fashion marketing program in 2017. I started my job search before officially finishing classes, and my first interview for a position I was highly interested in, actually got me the job. This felt crazy, but I was so happy. It was another local beauty brand, and the position was digital marketing coordinator. I was thrilled to work for this company and I was excited to take on the responsibility of full time work and learning about all things behind the scenes of a beauty brand.

This was my first full-time job and let me just tell you - it was an eye opener. I really enjoyed the team I worked with and I definitely learned a lot, but I felt myself getting very stressed and discouraged when it came to some areas of the job. At about six months in, I felt myself realizing I wanted to do more creative things like on the social media side with content creation and photography.

My boss at my first job was extremely understanding, and after discussing how I was feeling about the job and the work I was doing, she put me in touch with a brand that she knew was in need of some social media and branding help. This is the brand that I am with now, and I am forever thankful for the introduction! I have been able to do all the things that I am truly passionate about, and I can say that I truly feel more confident in myself and my abilities.

I've been the marketing manager at this current brand for just over a year now and I am super excited to see what will happen for us in 2019. Here's to more learning, growing and taking on new challenges!

What industry do you work in? How did you get your job?

Today's look is a very pink sweater from a cute online shop called Rosegal. (Enjoy 25% Discount with coupon: RGBF1)

I'm obsessed with the details on this sweater with the sleeves, the ties on the sleeves and even the neckline has some cool distressing!

I paired the sweater with some casual jeans, a silver seashell bag and my white (dirty) typical Converse shoes.
