Self Care

Taking care of yourself can be hard when life gets super busy. I think it’s important to take care of yourself as well as others, and that’s why I’m sharing this post today.

I used to neglect self care a lot. I would refuse to take breaks when I needed it, I pushed my body to keep working through times of burn out, and I wouldn’t even put a limit on my bedtime.

I work full time, have a busy social life + manage this platform as a side hustle. I attend many events, constantly take on extra projects, and don’t usually go to bed before 12 am on any night of the week.

The more this was going on, the more I could feel myself losing steam and needing to regroup. I’ve learned a lot about the importance of taking care of myself and even just listening to the way I’m feeling and adjusting accordingly. Here’s a list of things I would consider my current forms of self care:

Saying no to things

This one has been a tough one. I’m such a people pleaser and always want to say yes, but sometimes I need time to myself when I feel so overwhelmed. Learning to say no isn’t easy. Sometimes even changing the plan around to have time to rest is important. Last night I had all these tasks on my to-do list but it was 9:30 pm and I was extremely exhausted from the week. I decided to go to bed instead, and finish everything today (Saturday morning). Sometimes you’ve gotta do that.

Getting enough sleep

I started setting an alarm as a reminder for my bedtime. I’m not kidding. This sounds ridiculous but I was getting in a really bad habit of saying up way too late whether it was editing, writing or getting sucked into planning content/my time. When my alarm goes off now, I stop what I’m doing and turn everything off. I start getting ready for bed and turn off the lights and get into bed. I’ve been able to be in bed before 12 am many nights now! This has overall helped my ability to wake up in the morning and give my body the amount of rest it needs to repair itself for a new day. I am still working on this though, and would say that it's something I still struggle with on and off.

My skincare routine

My skincare routine is one of my favourite ways to unwind after a long day. As part of my bedtime routine, I always cleanse, exfoliate and moisturize my skin. Complete with a hot shower and (sometimes) a face mask. My current favourites are a good detox sheet mask or a peel off.

This outfit is monochromatic pink (my fave) with this Mac Miller Self Care tee and these pink jogger pants. The pink converse were a must as well. I shot this in front of the most random wall and sign that my friend Neg had such a good eye for finding. I never would have imagined these shots turning out this good without her.

Thanks for reading today!
